A Vocal Coach Breaks Down Fergie's...Um, Interesting Performance

Fergie...listen, we gotta talk. As a fellow Ferg(uson), I feel like I know you a little better than most others. That's why I think it's safe for me to say that what happened the other night at the NBA All-Star Game was...um, ungood.

Now, listen, I get what you were trying to do. You wanted to give us a memorable, buzzworthy national anthem that can unite, if only briefly, a country whose citizens seem to be constantly at each others' throats. And, if I'm being honest, it wasn't necessarily the worst anthem we've ever heard. Roseanne Barr and Carl Lewis would like a word. But...let's not kid ourselves, that wasn't your best effort. I'm sure you'll bounce back just fine, and you've already made the rounds apologizing for the performance, but just know that it might take a minute for us to forget what the hell just happened the other night.

Luckily, you've got guys like this vocal coach who sat down and broke the whole dang performance down:

It's important to listen to what this guy is saying, because he's not necessarily coming after you for doing something different, but just kinda pointing out things that make what you hear make sense. "Oh, THAT'S what happened." Fergie, much like the basketball players on the floor, you can watch the tape here and learn what mistakes to correct. You don't have to force it! You're already good, you don't need to try so hard to give us something different. It's the National Anthem. It's not hard to do it right, and there are some who do it really, really well...but it's very easy to screw it up, too. Hopefully you can bounce back better than ever. If not...you can always be this guy.
